Doing business while generating impact: Noémie Louvet’s thesis features Memesi among its case studies
“Sans argent, il est difficile de faire du bien.”
We were selected — and featured — as one of the case studies in Noémie Louvet’s thesis, a student in the Master’s program in Responsible Business Management at Sciences Po Lille, dedicated to a topic that’s close to our hearts: the model of Benefit Corporations in Italy.
In her work, titled “La Società Benefit, vers un nouveau paradigme entrepreneurial?”, Noémie analyzes how some Italian companies are integrating social and environmental impact objectives into their corporate charters, without compromising economic sustainability. Among the cases cited — alongside companies like Nativa and Bringme — is Memesi.
Our contribution emerged particularly through the interview with Luca Bernasconi, co-founder of the agency, who shared some reflections on the transformation that led us to become a Benefit Corporation (pp. 80-84).
The transition to the Benefit Corporation model has been — and continues to be — an ongoing process, far more significant than a mere formal adjustment. The commitment undertaken requires us to measure, report, and above all, to live our vision of responsible business every day. And while the rules grant us ample room for autonomy, it is up to us to give concrete meaning to that mission stated in our documents.
As the thesis rightly points out, the risk of “mission-washing” exists. But it is precisely to avoid it that we need consistency and — as we have learned — also the courage to challenge ourselves.
Thank you to Noémie for including us in her work. For us, it has been a way to revisit the path we have taken and to remind ourselves that every step toward genuine change can also become a point of reference for others.
